Technology is Great! (Until It's Not)

YOUR Practice Off The Mat

Vol. 2 Issue 6

A screenshot showing the extended outage of Squarespace that started shortly after me announcing that my new website was live and ready to go. That was…. a special moment.

I had to laugh when I sent out my last newsletter with the website change announcement and reflection essay.  Two things happened when clicking “send”:

Apparently some ISPs are blocking the links generated from the email service I have been using. and I've been stuck in the middle of both of them pointing at each other saying “it's their fault” (one reason why I am changing email service).

Separate of that - within a few minutes of me sending out the newsletter, Squarespace had an extended major outage preventing access to websites they host. Like, this one! So if you had tried to look at this site be it from the email or social media, or by typing the name in the web browser, and it didn't work - that's why.

I am reminded of the external things that we have no control over (hello day 864 of rain). While I can't fix Squarespace servers, or get Flodesk and Fidium to talk to each other. What I can do is choose how to respond. That is within my control.

In that particular moment, my mastery of the art of profanity coupled with screaming into the void, laughing hysterically, and reaching for a healthy dose of that non-attachment practice were all pretty handy choices.

Technology. Brilliant and amazing.

 Until it's not.
